Secastello is located at an altitude of 610 meters above sea level, in one of the most scenic spots overlooking Lake Garda, right on the Tremosine plateau and just few kilometers from the lake. The village is located on the hill stretching from Navese towards the Brasa Valley.
The origins of the name of Secastello
The village name refers to a castle, of which, however, there is no trace. The name comes the Latin prefix "sub", meaning "below", but it could also be interpreted as contraction of "summus", meaning "high".
Secastello is a very ancient village - surveys have revealed traces of pre-Roman settlements, dating back to the Iron Age, meaning that probably the village was already inhabited at that time.
Secastello between art and nature
Today Secastello is known as a very peaceful place, where solitude, silence and architecture merge into a unique symbiosis. This mix that attracts those looking for silence and peace, combined with a breathtaking view of Lake Garda.
At the entrance of the village there is a chapel, dedicated to the Mother of God with her Child and Saint Anthony. Remains of a lime kiln can be seen uphill from the road leading up to Navese.
Walking through the village you will find some small houses, hotels and narrow streets, with traces of pre-Roman settlements.
