The hike to Mount Bestone is one the most scenic in the Alto Garda area - at the same time, it is also one of the easiest, perfect for families.
The starting point is Località Le Balze, near Voltino, where you can leave your car.
The hike starts at about 670 meters above sea level. After leaving Hotel Balze and the last houses of the village behind, you will find the first signs for Mount Bestone with path number 110, showing a duration of about 45 minutes/1 hour walking.
The trail immediately enters a forest, climbing across the ridge and, after walking through vegetation for a bit, reaches a first lookout point. From here, you can admire a stunning view of of almost all of Lake Garda - you can see the Veronese shore, from north to south, and the village of Limone just below, located just below Mount Bestone.
Overall, the itinerary is fairly simple, mainly following the ridge - you just need to pay a little attention due to the stony bottom and the slope.
After thirty minutes, the path forks - on the right, it continues along the ridges with breathtaking views of the lake, on the left, however, it continues along an easy (and not as scenic) forest road. In both cases, the path will reach the top of Mount Bestone.
If you opt for the path on the right, you will follow a series of ups and downs along the ridge until you reach the path you just left shortly afterwards. From here, follow the signs for Mount Bestone, continuing along a wide dirt road that cuts across the mountainside, and the climb the last uphill section until you reach the top of the mountain at 917 meters, with an altitude difference of 247 meters. You’ll get to a real natural ‘panoramic balcony’, where you can admire Lake Garda with its azure waters and tiny boats in the distance, Mount Stivo with the mountains connecting it to the Cornetto of Mount Bondone, Mount Baldo and an impressive view overlooking the village of Limone. A panorama that invites you to observe this unique show of nature in silence.
Near the top there is a crucifix, a small altar and a bronze bell made by the Prosac group from Tremosine sul Garda.
The way down follows the same path, reaching the starting point near Le Balze after about 45 minutes of descent.
